It’s nice if nativity scenes are at eye level. We are using the end of our bar to display ours this year. It was custom painted by one of our friends, Dan Beauchamp.
Pine Cones
Sprayed with artificial snow and sprinkled with white glitter. This will be a great filler for the office.
Finished Tree
This is a 4 ft pre-lit tree in an urn. Decorated with grape leaves, bows, angels, and balls all with a gold, burgundy, and mauve color scheme. This one will go to my husband’s mortgage office.
Tree Tops
One lighted angel, one bow, 3 pointsettia’s, one metalic floral pick with crystal like stars, and some gold glittered twirly twigs. So much better than one single angel sitting on top of a tree
Color Story
Survey what you have and decide. On the black trees, I decided to use a special ribbon, that I saved that has the score of Silent Night printed on it paired with a gold mesh ribbon of the same width. I made three bows with only three bumps, and trailed the ribbon down the length of the trees. This is the starting point. Then, I chose to decorate with glass, and crystal ornaments. I used to collect the Swarovski crystal ornaments, so they need a special place. I used gold tones, and filled in with light colored balls and glitter balls too, all in whites, creams, gold, glass, and crystal. The black tree really gives it a rich look.
The arch tree is from an old store display that I purchased at the end of the season when we lived in PA. (I think all my trees are from the end of a season). It is really two trees that connect at the top.
It takes a lot of material to cover this tree, and I wanted drama. I have the most purple balls, so purple in every shade is what we are doing here. I used three angels to give balance. It is ok to put large angels in the tree. The do not always have to go on top! I plan to fill in with any ornaments that we have with purple.
Outside, our lanai is redwood stained, and I have dark red table cloths for entertaining. So, we’ll use red ribbons and balls to decorate the garlands.
Two white garlands and a white tree for my personal office decorated in pinks. Anything silver and blue was set-aside for the big office transformation. For my husband’s mortgage office, we have a simple tree in an urn, that I’m using shades of burgundy and gold.
Unpack, sort, and organize (take 2)
Over the last couple of weeks, my husband took down storage box after storage box, tree after tree, and bag after bag down from our storage areas located above the garage, and above the downstairs master bedroom. It’s been stored in the garage and on our downstairs lanai. I thought I would sort down there, but I decided it would be easier for me to unpack upstairs. So we set-up three 6 foot tables, I used the floor, the dining table, and the counters as well.
We have a large great room. For those with open room concept living, you may just get a couple of ideas when we’re done.
Don’t panic, it always looks worse before it looks better.
My mom and dad stopped over, and even my mom said it looked quite overwhelming. However, in order to truly see what you have, it’s better to just unpack everything, sort and organize.
Here’s how I did it. One table has Christmas picks, separated by color. The dining room chairs that have slats to put the flowers through separated by color. The bulk of the ornaments went on the dining table because they will all be used. The rest was set aside, swags in one place, garlands in another, trees in another etc…Then decided what themes I would concentrate on, and where they would go – To get the bones of the room(s) together. For our great room, I’m going to work on the corners mostly. One corner gets the two black trees, and the opposite corner, the arch tree. Then to balance the room, we put a shelf covered with fabric above the TV for some drama, and we’ll decorate above the kitchen cabinets to balance the room. We’ll also take advantage of the breakfast bar and the dining room table for some vignettes. Our outdoor space is one large lanai, which we use for entertaining. So in order to give it a little Christmas, we’ll put the garlands on the railing, and decorate with ribbon, and balls.
